  • Community service effort started to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.  We are organizing a relief effort through the end of February for Church World Service to gather much needed items for hygiene and baby kits for the people of Haiti.  All items should be new and can be taken and will be stored until assembled, at the Coca-Cola warehouse at 120 South Kimball Street, Mitchell.  Several Mitchell businesses including County Fair, Shopko, Kmart, Coborn's and Wal-Mart are participating in the efforts by selling items at a reduced price.  Items needed for each kit is listed below.  Additional monetary donations will be needed to cover the $2.00 per kit for processing/shipping.  Feel free to contact the church either by phone 605-996-5104 or email for more information.

    To assemble a Hygiene Kit you will need:

    • One hand towel measuring approximately 16" x 28" (no fingertip or bath towels)
    • One washcloth
    • One wide-tooth comb
    • One nail clipper (no metal files or
      emery boards)
    • One bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
    • One toothbrush (in original packaging)
    • Six Band-Aids®

    Hygiene Kit value: $10
    Processing/Shipping Cost: $2 per Kit

     

    To assemble a Baby Kit you will need:

    • Six cloth diapers
    • Two T-shirts or undershirts (no onesies)
    • Two washcloths
    • Two gowns or sleepers
    • Two diaper pins
    • One sweater or sweatshirt
    • Two receiving blankets (one can be a hand-knitted or crocheted baby blanket)

    All items should be new. Wrap items inside one of the receiving blankets and secure with both diaper pins.

    Baby Kit value: $39
    Processing/Shipping Cost: $2 per Kit


  • Food Bag Program - God of Hope (Gifts of Discipleship Helping Other People Engage) Stewardship and Mission Goal for 2010.    With the raise in job losses, there has been an increase in poverty.  Current meal options for those who are hungry or homeless in Mitchell is Monday through Saturday.  There is no food resources on Sunday.  We would like to to able to feed 25 families each week for the entire year.  Monetary donations can be sent to the church if you would like to help feed those in financial need.  The more we look outside ourselves, the more God blesses us.

  • The Congregational UCC of Mitchell, SD is seeking an organist or piano/accompanist. For further information contact the church office by email or phone at 605-996-5104.

  • The Church has been awarded $815.32 (40% of $2000.00) matching funds for Media with a Mission grant from the God is Still speaking Ministry. The church will run a weekly God is Still Speaking ad in the newspaper for 2 years. The church’s matching amount will be about $50.00 per month for the 2 years.  Monetary donations can be sent to the church.
